Telecommunications

Description of the field of study

Telecommunication networks are a combination of advanced technical solutions which serve to transmit information with applications which enable broadly understood multimedia services. Therefore such networks are often referred to as information and communication networks. Students acquire knowledge about the basics of telecommunications, including: measurements in telecommunications,  encoding and modulation techniques,  signal analysis and processing, implementation of the above techniques in microprocessor systems.

Students learn the principles of electromagnetic wave propagation and antenna designs, and implement this knowledge in the process of planning radio, optical and wired communication networks.

They become familiar with: up-to-date methods of developing and transmitting multimedia visual and audio content,  the structure and operating principle of wired and wireless telecommunication networks, with emphasis on internet techniques.

Their education also includes management methods and principles of running an own business related to the operation and safety of telecommunication networks.

Specializations

Information and Communication Networks, Mobile Telecommunications

Employment perspectives

Graduates are ready to work in institutions related to broadly understood telecommunications and ICT, including design and development departments of companies or in research institutions and in areas which require supervision over ICT infrastructure, such as: in IT departments in various sectors of the industry, finances, administration (e.g. as an administrator of ICT networks), in telecom companies (e.g. with providers of cellular networks, internet or ICT services), in operating and servicing telecommunication and IT devices or in maintaining local networks, in manufacturers and distributors of IT and telecommunication devices, in research and development centres of various companies, in research centres and institutions.
