Łukasz Radliński from the Faculty Information and Communication Technology and Jakub Pawłowski from the Faculty of Fundamental Problems of Technology are the best graduates from our University in the competition for academic year 2022/2023.

Machine learning, RPG games and... a wedding

The best graduate from Wroclaw University of Science and Technology in the last academic year was Łukasz Radliński from our Faculty, who graduated from systems engineering.

Zdjęcie Łukasza Radlińskiego– In my opinion, this field of study gave me the best opportunities when it comes to studies of machine learning and programming artificial intelligence systems,’ says Łukasz Radliński. “During my studies, I understood many issues in the field of optimization and artificial intelligence and learned solid foundations in modelling, analysis and system design..

A graduate from our Faculty wrote his engineering thesis „System of classification and analysis of transcriptions and audio recordings from RPG game sessions" under the supervision of Dr. Wojciech Lorkiewicz. Currently, he is working in the Clarin project, where he deals with the issue of recognizing emotions in texts..

– Our task is slowly coming to an end, but I would definitely like to continue working on high-level text processing and analysis – explains Łukasz Radliński, who plans to start studying at WUST Doctoral School next year.

In his free time, he is interested in role-playing games. „I play, I lead RPG sessions, but I also write scripts for them and create tools for story analysis. I also devoted a large part of my free time to organizing the wedding, because I have also been happily married for four months – adds Łukasz Radliński, who is currently on his honeymoon in New Zealand.

The best, again

Jakub Pawłowski from the Faculty of Fundamental Problems of Technology was nominated the best graduate of the second-cycle studies at our University. A year ago, he was the best in the first-degree studies category (field of study: quantum engineering); now he managed to repeat this success in the master's degree, but in a different field – Big Data Analytics (field of theoretical physics).

– I decided to take up these studies because I knew that they would enable me not only to broaden my horizons and gain valuable knowledge in physics, but also in mathematics and important issues of computer science – says Jakub Pawłowski. „At the same time, they left me enough freedom to continue my research work in the group of my supervisor, Prof. Marcin Mierzejewski.

Jakub Pawłowski's research focuses on one of the most frequently discussed problems in modern physics, which is the relationship between irreversible thermodynamics and time-reversible dynamics predicted by quantum mechanics.

– In other words, the question is whether a typical, isolated quantum system is able to and will "forget" about its initial, non-equilibrium state,” explains Jakub Pawłowski. „This loss of quantum information is one of the biggest obstacles to a functional and scalable quantum computer. The understanding and gaining control over these types of processes could be the next breakthrough discovery.

During his master's studies, he studied transport properties in the long-range spin model. He included the obtained results in his master's thesis „Eigenmodes in nearly integrable quantum chains." – Currently, I am continuing my studies at WUST Doctoral School.

In my free time, I catch up on movies, enjoy coffee and travel around Europe – adds the graduate.
