Applied Computer Science

Description of the field of study

The field allows students to develop new skills and acquire new knowledge on the broadly understood computer science and its various implementations in solving business or technical problems or in the computer game sector. Applied computer science is supplemented with training in physics and mathematics, basic entrepreneurship courses, as well as in social and professional issues in computer science. Much emphasis is also placed on soft skills, such as presentation skills and teamwork skills.

Students are trained in the following areas: software development as well as programming languages and techniques, algorithms and data structures, computer networks, data bases and warehouses, mobile, distributed and web systems, basics of the Internet of Things (IoT), software design and IT project management.

Employment perspectives

Graduates may find jobs on the following positions in companies involved in manufacturing software, designing, implementing and administering computer networks and systems for various applications in IT departments of banks and financial institutions as well as in economic, social, public and private organizations: application/system software developer,  computer network administrator,  Linux/Windows administrator,  IT engineer/specialist/tester/maintenance officer,  webdesigner/webdeveloper/webmaster.
