Faculty of Information and Communication Technology

Computer Engineering

Description of the field of study

The study program includes issues related to designing IT systems for various applications in industry and in other branches of economy. 2nd cycle studies in English are intended to also develop research competences. Students gain knowledge and skills required in working as a system analyst or architect. Stress is also placed on teaching such information that is up-to-date and searched for in the job market. The programs offered in this field are intended to provide the student with a solid background for further comprehensive development of competences and with the possibility to choose from a broad range of future education and career paths, including in research and development departments.

Specialisations

Advanced Copmuter Science

The study program in the ACS specialisation is focused on teaching multidisciplinary knowledge and developing theoretical and practical skills in modern fields of computer science (machine learning, neural networks, optimization, etc.), information technology and computer systems. We believe that students learn best when they engage in research (work on projects) individually and in teams, and when lecturers act as advisors and mentors. Therefore, more than 65% of the study program focuses on active forms of learning such as group projects, seminars and laboratory exercises. Students acquire skills in solving actual IT problems, conducting research and obtaining information from literature and other available sources. Our graduates will be prepared to act as team leaders and will have extensive team skills (critical thinking, cooperation, communication, etc.). They will gain experience necessary for a professional career in research units, universities and industry.

Internet Engineering

The education in this specialisation covers issues related to creating websites and internet applications. It includes knowledge required in managing, reconfiguring and ensuring the security of Internet services, as well as in creating concurrent and distributed applications. The student gains UNIX/LINUX programming and administration skills, creates advanced embedded systems, designs and implements Internet of Things solutions. The student is prepared to independently solve IT problems (including to classify them in terms of their complexity, specification and implementation of solutions) and to manage an IT team. The student is a proficient software developer and has the ability to prepare, implement and verify projects, as well as to use IT tools in practice. The student has knowledge needed to quickly adapt to a dynamically changing IT reality. As part of the specialisation, the student gains experience and skills required when working in a project team, as well as when managing Internet services and ensuring their availability and security. Graduates find employment in the development and operation of software systems, Internet business applications (e-business, e-commerce, e-banking), as well as management systems in administration and in military services. They work as network / system administrators, designers and programmers of web, mobile and embedded applications. They recognize cybersecurity threats and counteract them at the hardware and software level. Good theoretical background, experience, specific practical knowledge acquired owing to modern computer and network equipment and design tools, good knowledge of foreign languages – these allow graduates to easily adapt to the needs of the labour market and to find an interesting and well-paid job in companies both in the country and abroad, both in small and large research design and implementation projects. Graduates have the experience necessary to start a professional career and undertake third-cycle (doctoral) studies.
