Prof. Agata Klaus-Rosińska, (Faculty of Management), Dr. Jerzy Łątka (Faculty of Architecture) and Ewelina Kusa, M.Sc. (Faculty of Civil Engineering) are the winners of the second edition of the Quintus competition. The laureates include teachers from our Faculty.
The competition is intended to allow WUST students to show appreciation to their academic teachers. The winners were nominated by student governments from each faculty, and the finalists were selected by a representation of the WUST Student Government.
The main prizes were awarded in three categories: people without an academic degree (including doctoral students), doctors and professors. The competition was also held for teachers from the Department of Foreign Languages and the Department of Physical Education and Sports, and 26 academic teachers were distinguished.
In total, the prizes went to 76 people, with three main winners among them, who received diplomas and prizes of PLN 12,000, while the winners in the individual faculties received diplomas and PLN 6,000, and those who were awarded distinctions, a diploma and a prize of PLN 3,000.
In the professors category, the WUST Student Government awarded Prof. Agata Klaus-Rosińska from the Faculty of Management.
– The Quintus Award is one of the most important distinctions for me, because it was awarded by students. I feel honored and at the same time intimidated by the fact that out of so many outstanding lecturers, I was chosen and honored – says Prof. Agata Klaus-Rosińska. – This award is a great motivation for me to continue developing as a teacher, to work on improving teaching methods and creating a friendly environment supporting student development.
The laureate adds that in her work with students, she places particular emphasis on building an atmosphere of openness and mutual respect. She tries to make everyone feel encouraged to learn, ask questions and share ideas. It is also important for her to help students develop critical thinking, practical skills and a creative approach to challenges, also in the context of solving engineering problems.
– I also want to engage students in additional scientific projects that help them discover and develop their interests, while building competences for the future – emphasizes Prof. Agata Klaus-Rosińska.
The laureates from the individual faculties are:

The doctors category was won by Dr. Jerzy Łątka from the Faculty of Architecture.
– Receiving this prize is a special distinction for me, primarily because it is awarded by students – the most critical members of our community – says Dr. Jerzy Łątka. – I think that young people who follow the development directions of their studied disciplines know perfectly well what is valuable to them. I am therefore glad that the teaching methods I have been proposing, despite the high demands I place on students, are approved and appreciated.
According to the laureate, the role of academic teachers is to make students interested in their subjects. “By showing them broader development perspectives and treating them as partners, we are able to extract the best resources of creative problem-solving from them,” adds Dr. Łątka.

In the category of people without an academic degree, the winner was Ewelina Kusa, M.Sc. from the Faculty of Civil Engineering.
– I’m surprised but also touched that my work has been recognized by the student community. It is a wonderful confirmation that what I do makes sense and is met with a positive reception –says Ewelina Kusa. – It is an honour for me that as an academic teacher I have been recognized by the people I teach – this is the most valuable award.
For Ewelina Kusa, working with students is a challenge to inspire, and not to bore them, but also to teach them effectively. How to convey what needs to be conveyed in an accessible and creative way, to stimulate discussion and understanding so that knowledge can be used universally. – It is also a challenge to be a leader who shows the way, but also listens, who teaches but also learns at the same time – says Ewelina Kusa. –Each group of students is different, requires a different approach to classes, is characterized by different dynamics, and thus it is also a lesson in being flexible. It is also about meeting another person, in which case I am guided by empathy and kindness, in order to help and not create obstacles.
