dawit_2023-098.jpgThe 2nd Activity Days at our Faculty, which took place on 24 October, 2023, attracted crowds of students and exhibitors. Thank you and see you next year!

During this year's Activity Days at the Faculty of Information and Communication Technology, we hosted 26 exhibitors: student research groups and organizations from Wrocław University of Science and Technology. This year's event was attended by even more students than the last year's edition, and next year we are hoping for an even better turnout.

DaWIT is, above all, a good opportunity to get to know more closely the student research clubs operating at our Faculty or those which our students participate in. The event was a great opportunity to learn more about such clubs and organizations. Some visitors had clearly defined goals and came to ask about recruitment conditions, others wanted to spend an interesting time, and some came to collect special stamps that served as tickets in a lottery for a WUST sweatshirt. Thank you all.

During the event, the participants could visit stands prepared by student research clubs, where they could not only talk, but also play both computer and board games, or get promotional leaflets, brochures and gadgets from the Faculty and those prepared by the clubs. And there was a lot to choose from – DaWIT 2023 was a venue for:

•    KN BioMedical AI
•    KN Breadboard Computing
•    KN CyberTech
•    KN Kredek
•    Akademicki Klub Lotniczy Jetstream
•    KN Neuroinformatyki Neuron
•    KN Wireless Group
•    KN Coffee Break
•    KN Niezawodność i bezpieczeństwo systemów informatycznych
•    KN EKA.NET
•    KN TK Games
•    KN White Hats
•    KN PWr Solar Boat team
•    KN Solvro
•    KN Traf-Barak
•    KN WMS_Dev.

The research clubs enjoyed great popularity. Even more so, as the event coincided with recruitment session for student organizations. What did the visitors ask at the stands?

–  The questions were very different. Some people simply asked about what we do. Some others know what we do and asked about recruitment, or whether we will organize again some of our flagship events, such as the Pentester Course or Safety After Hours – says Maksymialian Górski, president of the White Hats Research Club.

Jan Goleński from the Jetstream Academic Aviation Club adds that students also asked about competitions in which the club participates.

– Students were also curious about our offer for them if they joined us. It's not only about a nice team, adventures and interesting experiences, but above all, about constantly improving your qualifications – says Jan Goleński. – Being active in our club means continuous work throughout the year, before and after the season, when we implement specific projects to prepare for competitions. There are many people interested, so we invite you to come to a recruitment interview at our club.

dawit_2023-081.jpgCareer assistance

In addition to research clubs and student organizations, such as the Faculty's Student Government or the Academic IT Association, which also recruited people, exhibitors at DaWIT also included university units whose aim is to support students. Their support covers the development of a scientific or professional career, as well as help in difficult life-related situations, mental crises or illnesses. The stands where you could get the necessary information about all kinds of help included:

•    Dział Dostępności i Wsparcia Osób z Niepełnosprawnościami
•    Zespół ds. Polityki Równościowej Uczelni
•    Dziekanat WIT
•    Akademicki Inkubator Przedsiębiorczości
•    Biuro Karier
•    Unite!
•    Szkoła Doktorska
•    Dział Współpracy Międzynarodowej.

dawit_2023-032.jpgSelf-develop and have fun, i.e. a concert and the Belgian dance

Just like last year, DaWIT is also a good time for integration. The WITelsi band played two concerts. Our Faculty's own “Beatles” band is composed of: Prof. Andrzej Kucharski on bass guitar, Prof. Paweł Wachel on electric guitar, Prof. Tomasz Kajdanowicz on electric guitar, Dr. Marek Kopel on drums and Paula Sobok, vocals. Right after the second concert, the Faculty's student government invited everyone to take part in the Belgian dance together in front of the C-1 building.

You could also get one of the 10 WUST sweatshirt prizes. The most active students collected stamps from exhibitors and took part in a lottery. The sweatshirts will go to the owners of these index numbers:

At the end of the event, the jury consisting of: Prof. Andrzej Kucharski, dean of the Faculty, Prof. Paweł Wachel, vice-dean for student affairs, and Ula Małecka, head of the Team for Promotion and Contact with Stakeholders, announced the results of the competition for the best stand prepared by the research clubs, in which the prize is a roll-up. This year, the winner was the “Neuron” Neuroinformatics Research Club.

dawit_2023-092.jpgCongratulations to the winning team and to the sweatshirt winners. We would like to thank all our students and students from high schools no. 14 and 15 who visited DaWIT for their participation. We cordially invite you to the 2024 Activity Days!
