– I always pushed myself everywhere, says the student of our Faculty, listing her previous activities, in which she was often the only girl in the group. She mentions playing football, going to bridge classes, and later training athletics, taking classes website development and finally... joining the Bajer Student Club as a DJ.

Our guest claims that she always wanted to study at Wrocław University of Science and Technology, but she never knew which field to choose. She cannot say that computer science is her greatest passion, although topics related to computers and programming are at the centre of her interest. She chose Applied Computer Science, which she has been studying for three years, because of the possibility of remote work, which will enable her to pursue many future goals and interests.

– One of my character traits (I sometimes like it, and sometimes don't) is that I love to get involved in a lot of interesting things and I can't give up on any of them. And then I lack time for myself, but I guess I just like it. In addition to my numerous interests, I really like to participate in the organization of events as a volunteer – says Izabela Kalenik from our Faculty.

She served as a volunteer, among others. at the "Kapitularz" Fantasy Festival in Łódź, at the Orlen Cup athletics meeting also in Łódź, and since 2017 she has also been involved in the Odyssey of the Mind. This is a competition for children and teenagers, aimed at developing creative and unconventional thinking. Izabela used to participate in this event, and now she helps organize it.
Due to her interest in volunteering and constant search for new activities, she joined the Bajer Student Club. Not just to play, but to create events for students. In her first year of studies, she was one of the few girls who joined the club.

– At the WUST camp, I took part in workshops conducted by the Bajer members, and after returning home, I bought a controller and started learning. Over the last year, I played at every event in which Bajer was involved. I played for a wide audience, so mostly it was pop and tech house.

Her other DJ experiences include playing at faculty balls. “It taught me how to connect audio equipment myself and deal with unpredictable situations, such as when the music suddenly stops during a party. Maybe it's not exactly my style, but it's always worth trying and gaining experience, and playing at such events gave me a lot of fun."

The heroine of the series says that she has recently started to develop towards other genres close to techno and house music. This is influenced by the DJ course at the Wrocław Sound Institute. “It may not have significantly improved my technical skills, but it certainly opened my mind to mixing, searching for new songs, and the approach to music itself. I feel that this makes me understand more about what direction I want to go in as a DJ."

The course allowed Izabela to play in one of the most popular techno clubs in Wrocław.

– Personally, I would like to play in places where commercial music is not played, because I am fed up with it. I'm drawn towards techno, but also funky, groovy house. In my opinion, this type of music has an amazing atmosphere and people want to rock to it – says our DJ.
– Where does my nickname come from? Dizzy means you have a whirling sensation of everything spinning around. It reflects my character well, and at the same time goes well with my name – she explains for the #JestemzPWr series.

Music is a relatively new passion for DJ Dizzy. She used to practice dancing, swimming and athletics. “I started, among others, in the heptathlon, but I devoted most of my heart to high jump. I am most proud of my fourth place in the Polish U20 Championships, where I jumped the bar at a height of 1.68 m. My training was interrupted by a broken collarbone. I tried to come back by competing in the AMcademic Polish Championships. I won third place in the category of technical universities, but it wasn't the same anymore,” says our student. She began pursuing her next passion, sailing, at the age of 11 at the Sail Swim Sailing School. Currently, she has yacht and motorboat sailing certificates as well as qualifications as a sailing teacher. Every holiday she also goes to the Mazury lakes to train young sailing students.

– My greatest sailing adventure was a cruise on the Mediterranean Sea on the Pogoria, under the command of the legend of Polish sailing – Capt. Krzysztof Baranowski. I like adrenaline and I'm fit, so I was always the first to climb the yards – horizontal beams on the mast on which the sails are hung. At the end of the cruise, the captain gave me his book and the title of the "yard alpinist" as a reward.

In the near future, Izabela wants to go to the Baltic Sea and the North Sea and gain the experience necessary to become a sea yacht sailing certificate. We keep our fingers crossed for Izabela, our guest in the #JestemzPWr #JestemzWIT series.
