Researchers from the Department of Artificial Intelligence have been very successful in AI. Their four scientific articles have been accepted by NeurIPS 2022, one of the world's top machine learning conferences. Over the past 37 years, only 3 articles of WUST scientists have been accepted.
– This is a great success of our scientists, because each year, out of several thousand publications sent for review, the number of papers accepted for presentations does not exceed 5%, and 20% for posters – says Prof. Tomasz Kajdanowicz, head of the Department of Artificial Intelligence and one of the authors distinguished by NeurIPS.
He added that according to Google Scholar Metrics, NeurIPS is among the TOP10 conferences and journals in the world in terms of publishing the most frequently cited papers in the last 5 years. The prestigious list also includes Nature, Science, Cell and The New England Journal of Medicine.
In 2022, the following scientists and Ph.D. students from the Department of Artificial Intelligence as well as graduates of the Artificial Intelligence field of study qualified for publication in the NeurIPS conference:
1. “FlowHMM: Flow-based continuous hidden Markov models” by Prof. Paweł Lorek, Dr. Rafał Nowak, Prof. Tomasz Trzciński, Prof. Maciej Zięba,
2. „This is the way – lessons learned from designing and compiling LEPISZCZE, a comprehensive NLP benchmark for Polish” – effects of the CLARIN project – by Łukasz Augustyniak, M.Sc., Kamil Tagowski, M.Sc., Albert Sawczyn, M.Sc., Denis Janiak, M.Sc., Roman Bartusiak, M.Sc., Adrian Szymczak, M.Sc., Arkadiusza Janza, M.Sc., Dr. Piotr Szymański, Marcin Wątroba, M.Sc., Prof. Mikołaj Morzy, Prof. Tomasz Kajdanowicz, Prof. Maciej Piasecki,
3. „Neural Architecture for Online Ensemble Continual Learning” – research project as part of an implementation Ph.D. study, paper for the NeurIPS 2022 Workshop: MetaLearn by Mateusz Wójcik, M.Sc., Witold Kościukiewicz, M.Sc., Dr. Adam Gonczarek, Prof. Tomasz Kajdanowicz,
4. „Contrastive Learning for Multi-Label Classification” – results from a M.Sc. dissertation, paper for the NeurIPS 2022 Workshop: Self-Supervised Learning – Theory and Practice by Vladimir Zaigrajev, M.Sc., Dr Maciej Zięba.
Held annually since 1987, the conference NeurIPS (Neural Information Processing Systems) gathers the best scientists in the field of neural networks and machine learning. It is one of the most prestigious and competitive international conferences in this field.
Its prestige is demonstrated by the interest at the level of over 13,000. participants registered on-site before COVID-19.
