On 1 September, Prof. Wojciech Bożejko, head of the Department of Control Systems and Mechatronics at our Faculty, starts to chair the Scientific Discipline Council of Information and Communication Technology. Congratulations!
Prof. Wojciech Bożejko, head of the Department of Control Systems and Mechatronics at our Faculty, has been nominated the new chairman of the Scientific Discipline Council of Information and Communication Technology. In accordance with the Statute of Wrocław University of Science and Technology, Scientific Discipline Councils are organs entitled to award the scientific degrees of doctor and habilitated doctor. The term of office is four years.
Prof. Wojciech Bożejko is a 1999 graduate of computer science at the University of Wrocław. He also graduated in 1998 from Wrocław Academy of Music, in the piano class. In 2003, he defended his doctoral dissertation at Wrocław University of Science and Technology entitled „Parallel algorithms for scheduling production tasks" written under the supervision of Prof. Czesław Smutnicki. In the same year, he began working at Wrocław University of Science and Technology, first at the Institute of Technical Cybernetics, then at the Institute of Computer Science, Automatics and Robotics. He is currently head of the Department of Control Systems and Mechatronics.
His research topics are related, on the one hand, to the theory of discrete optimization, especially in the aspect of quantum and multiprocessor calculations, and on the other – to their practical application in effective algorithms for solving real problems.
His main focus is on the construction of effective algorithms for strongly NP-hard discrete optimization problems – quantum, concurrent and distributed optimization algorithms, for scheduling and optimization problems in complex production and logistics systems (including task scheduling problems in flexible production systems, nest problems, quadratic assignment problems (QAP), various types of the travelling salesman problem (TSP)) and for practical optimization problems.
Professor Bożejko is the author or co-author of 269 peer-reviewed scientific papers, including 38 articles in journals from the Master Journal List. He is also a reviewer in many foreign journals (including the European Journal of Operational Research, Journal of Intelligent Manufacturing, Journal of Parallel and Distributed Computing, Computers & Industrial Engineering, IEEE Transactions on Automation Science and Engineering, International Journal of Advanced Manufacturing Technology).
His scientific publications have been cited many times in foreign literature (ISI Web of Knowledge database shows 772 citations, h-index 15; according to Google Scholar it is 1839 and h-index 23, respectively). He carried out projects for NCN, National Centre for Research and Development (NCBiR), and Toyota Motor Manufacturing Europe as a manager and contractor.
He was also an expert in the evaluation of projects for NCBiR and Swiss National Science Foundation (SNF). He promoted five and currently supervises two Ph.D. students. He is also a member of scientific societies: IEEE (Senior member), IFAC, PTZP, WTN, POLPAR, reviewer, secretary and chairman of numerous doctoral (17) and habilitation (12) committees. He also participated in 12 professorial proceedings.
