Department of Artificial Intelligence organised another edition of the AI Forum. The event took place on Thursday (26 June) at the Student Culture Zone. During it, our students showcased the results of their work on artificial intelligence projects.
The AI Forum is a summary of one or three-semester research works performed by of second-degree students in the field of Artificial Intelligence. They work on projects aimed at solving significant social, scientific, or business problems. This is the form of assessment for the Research and Implementation Project course.
– It's a method to engage and introduce students to one of the three worlds, which we expect they will belong to after graduation. This means they will be either entrepreneurs, innovators, and startup founders creating new solutions, or they will be future scientists, outstanding specialists, leaders of good research and development teams – says Prof. Tomasz Kajdanowicz, head of the Department of Artificial Intelligence.
The event was organised for the third time. First-semester students presented ideas, while those in the third semester showcased project results. There was also a poster session.
The presented projects included: an AI system enabling the analysis of thyroid ultrasound images, an application allowing photorealistic visualisations of tattoos, a prototype application generating studio-quality portrait photos from a simple selfie, and a project using artificial intelligence to automatically recognise book characters and extract their key traits from texts to create realistic visualisations of them.
– „The students" ideas are very ambitious. Some projects manage to secure really substantial funding. They are based on scientific projects, resulting in publications. In the history of such projects, dozens of publications have already achieved at least a CORE A rating, so this is truly a significant accomplishment – adds Professor Kajdanowicz.
The AI Forum also invites investors. This allows collaboration and provides the opportunity to pursue further initiatives after graduation or as part of doctoral studies.
