The 11th International Microwave and Radar Week, which takes place every two years in Central and Eastern Europe, is coming to an end this time at the Faculty of Information and Communication Technology.
The multi-day event is a continuation of a series of highly successful conferences in Warsaw (2004), Kraków (2006), Wrocław (2008), Vilnius (2010), Warsaw (2012), Gdańsk (2014), Kraków (2016), Poznań (2018), Warsaw (2020), and Gdańsk (2022). The event includes two parallel conferences: MIKON-2024 (the 25th International Microwave and Radar Conference) and IRS-2024 (the International Radar Symposium).
The conferences focus on microwave and radar techniques. They serve as an international forum for sharing research results, new ideas, and facilitating the direct exchange of professional experiences. Participation is open to students, university staff, and industry professionals.
The first Week was organized in 2004 in Warsaw, using the International Microwave and Radar Conference MIKON as its core. MIKON's predecessor was established in 1969 by the Polish Academy of Sciences (PAN) as a national event, and in 1994 it was transformed into a biennial international conference under the auspices of PAN and the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) (MTT and AP Societies). Since 2002, it has also been technically co-sponsored by the European Microwave Association (EuMA) and the European GAAS Association.
The main partners of the first Week were the International Radar Symposium IRS'04 (established in 1998 by the German radar community, held outside Germany for the first time in 2004) and the 17th International Conference on Electromagnetic Fields and Materials EMFM'04 (organized since the 1970s by former USSR countries).
Subsequent MRWs have also included other conferences such as the International Conference on Mixed Design of Integrated Circuits and Systems MIXDES, the Baltic URSI Symposium, or the Signal Processing Symposium, but only IRS has remained a constant partner.
The first three editions of MRW were organized by the Telecommunications Institute (PIT) and took place in Warsaw (2004). Since 2016, MRWs have been co-organized by the MIKON Microwave and Radiolocation Foundation (established in 2015) and leading technical universities, with PITRADWAR SA becoming the strategic partner of MRW.
In 2024, MRW returned to Wrocław and Wrocław University of Science and Technology.
