23 research and implementation projects prepared by our students were presented during the AI Forum. The special guest of the event was Janusz Cieszyński, Minister of Digitization.
– In the field of artificial intelligence, we have a three-semester course in which students prepare a project that solves a specific business or social problem by employing an appropriate technology – says Prof. Tomasz Kajdanowicz, head of the Department of Artificial Intelligence. – Today we talked about the effects of work after the first and third semester. It turns out that some of the students are planning to set up a startup and implement what they have managed to develop, and some of the work is waiting for publication – he adds.
In total, 23 projects were presented. One of them was "Dark Vision. From Darkness to Light,” in which students prepared an open source library comprising six methods for increasing image brightness.
In another project, "Hear the Invisible," students prepared a mobile application that assists the blind. Based on the view behind the camera and questions from the user, it recognizes objects and estimates the depth and informs about the distance between the user and an element.
The event was attended by a special guest, Janusz Cieszyński, the Minister of Digitization, who talked about, among others, the challenges related to changing cybersecurity regulations. The Minister also answered the questions asked by the participants of the event and himself also asked the authors of the projects about the ideas they used.
– You can see that students not only solve tasks given by teachers, but also deal with problems that may have a potential to shape reality. By doing so, they perfectly combine theory with practical applications – said Janusz Cieszyński. – What’s important, the projects are related to artificial intelligence, which enjoys great interest in the world of business and science. I am glad that here, at Wrocław University of Science and Technology this is not the future, but the here and now – he added.
The AI Forum was also accompanied by a poster session presenting the most advanced projects.
