The „Phenomena” WUST Challenge for High School Students

Date: 03.07.2024 Category: General

tk_games_pwr_challenge-14.jpgThis year's edition of the WUST Challenge was organised by students from the TK Games research club. They prepared "Energy in the Game" workshops for participants from high schools. The participating students played a board game developed by our research club, and their task was to „make their own energy".

The workshop participants were divided into two teams and fought in an original game developed by students of our TK Games research club. Players were first introduced to the game and then had to generate "energy" themselves. The game developed by TK Games was included in the thematic block devoted to energy.

tk_games_pwr_challenge-13.jpgClasses could register for one of three thematic blocks that corresponded to the titles of WUST popular science films of the „Phenomena” series, i.e. Light, Water and Energy. The educational game started with a lecture, individual for each thematic block. The teams could win their first points already at that stage. Then the classes were divided into two groups. The first group went to the campus to solve design tasks, and the second group had additional workshops.

The workshops, presentations and the game were attended by high school students from Wrocław, Oleśnica, Oława, Zgorzelec, Leszno and Lubin.dsc_0152.jpg– Each thematic block consisted of five design workshops referring to the main topic – says Natalia Michalska from the Information and Promotion Department at WUST. – For example, for teams starting in the Light block, we had a workshop on fibre lasers or light in ophthalmology. For the Water block, we prepared chemical water purification and the phenomenon of Brownian motion, and for the Energy block – tasks on vehicle aerodynamics and independent energy generation.

Those participants who performed additional tasks in the campus were faced with such challenges as building an aerofoil, a game of laser chess or a rowing sprint.  challenge_24_1.jpg– Those who wanted to learn more about the Phenomena series could also take part in special screenings of all three parts of our film – adds Natalia Michalska.
