The rector appointed Prof. Kamil Staniec from our Faculty as vice-rector for education at Wrocław University of Science and Technology. The professor starts his duties on 1 February. Congratulations!

Prof. Kamil Staniec (Faculty of Information and Communication Technology)

A graduate of the Faculty of Electronics and Electrical Engineering at Łódź University of Technology, which he graduated from in 2001 with a master's degree, with honours, in electronics and telecommunications. In the same year, he began doctoral studies at the Faculty of Electronics, WUST, which he graduated from in 2006, defending with honours his thesis on deterministic modelling of radio waves propagation in confined spaces.

After having successfully defended his dissertation, he started working at the Institute of Telecommunications and Acoustics, WUST, focusing his research on digital radio systems, short-range wireless systems and intra-system electromagnetic compatibility in wireless sensor networks.

His achievements in the latter area earned him a postdoctoral (doctor habilitated) degree in 2014. Before his nomination as a full professor he researched electromagnetic cybersecurity in the context of the Internet of Things (IoT). This research resulted in a publication titled Radio Interfaces in the Internet of Things Systems. Performance studies ”(Springer, 2020). In 2022 he was awarded full professorship.

He actively cooperates with the industry in the field of teaching, research and engineering. This cooperation resulted inter alia in certified implementations in companies such as Nokia, Toyota or radio broadcasting stations. He also supervises the "LokalDAB" network of three digital radio transmitters, operating in the DAB+ standard in the area of the Wrocław municipality, which is the largest national multiplex in terms of the number of radio stations served (currently 15 stations). The network was designed and launched as a result of an NCBiR project carried out under his supervision.

Prof. Kamil Staniec is deputy head of the Department of ICT and Telecommunications and head of the computer engineering and telecommunications discipline at WUST Doctoral School (from 2019 to 1 Feb. 2023). He is also the tutor of the telecommunications field of education.

The Professor's private life revolves around his wife Anna – an economist, his two daughters: Oliwia (14 and Jagoda (11), and his dog Nutka – a Greek harehound. He is a music school graduate (1st class piano) and his hobbies include simultaneous translation into English and road cycling. He relaxes by reading such authors as: Ci Xin Liu, Umberto Eco, Stanisław Lem, Olga Tokarczuk and Ildefonso Falcones.
