Advancement in IT and Telecommunications – a New Centre Has Ambitious Plans

Date: 18.03.2025 Category: General

centrum_zaufanych_syst-26.jpgSeven specialised research laboratories will be established as part of the Centre for Trusted Information and Telecommunication Systems (functioning under the Polish acronym CZSIT). There are also plans for a new building that will be constructed on the Na Grobli Campus.

The establishment of the centre is closely linked to the development plans of Wrocław University of Science and Technology outlined in the university's strategy. The primary task of the centre is to integrate different environments and inspire collaboration with other research centres, the business community, administration, and non-governmental organisations.

On Wednesday, Prof. Łukasz Sójka from the Department of ICT and Telecommunications was appointed as the director of the centre. His term will last until 2028.

– The centre will perform research activities in the field of information and telecommunication technologies, including quantum and mobile telecommunications, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, microwave band communication, and secure automation, mechatronics, and control systems – says Prof. Sójka.

The centre will include seven specialised laboratories:

• Artificial Intelligence Laboratory,
• Cybersecurity Laboratory,
• Microwave Band Communication Systems Laboratory,
• 6th Generation (6G) Cellular Systems Laboratory,
• Quantum Telecommunications Laboratory,
• Quantum Cryptography Laboratory,
• Laboratory of Automation, Mechatronics and Control Systems.

The scope of its research will include areas such as advanced data protection systems, designing and testing security measures in telecommunication infrastructure, development of machine learning algorithms for various applications, development of 6G communication systems, and integration of cybersecurity in automation and mechatronics systems.

– We want most of our laboratories to obtain accreditation from the Polish Centre for Accreditation in the category of research laboratories. We will also build new research teams, apply for grants in national and international projects, and participate in implementation projects,” explains Prof. Sójka.

The centre will have its headquarters in a new building that will be constructed at Na Grobli Street. The two-floor building will include, among others, specialist research laboratories and work rooms, an antenna terrace, a photovoltaic installation, and completely furnished social facilities. The tender for the construction works is to be announced in May, and the completion of the building is planned for September 2027.
