Mateusz Kula, Marcel Okonowski, and Zbigniew Stasieńko from our Faculty have been nominated in the WUST Best Athlete 2024 plebiscite. We invite you to vote for our athletes. You can vote until Sunday, 26 January. A total of eleven athletes are competing for the title.

The WUST Best Athlete plebiscite is organized for the fifth time by the Department of Physical Education and Sport. The event promotes athletes from technical universities and their achievements.

The nominees for the year 2024 were selected by the board of trainers from the Sport Department, from among the proposals previously submitted by the supervisors of the respective WUST sports sections. The final group comprises 11 people, among whom there are 3 athletes from our Faculty. They are the runner Mateusz Kula, the karate fighter Marcel Okonowski, and the basketball player Zbigniew Stasieńko.

Mateusz Kula (Wydział Informatyki i Telekomunikacji) – cross-country running  

• 

  8th place in the 9 km distance in the classification of technical universities at the Polish Academic Cross-Country Championships.
• Polish representative during the first and second rounds of the World Cup in Orienteering (Olten/Switzerland, Genova/Italy).
• 2nd place at the Polish Club Championships in Classic Orienteering in Borowice.
• Winner of the Polish Club Championships in Orienteering Relay in Borowice.
• Bronze medallist at the Polish Championships in the sprint relay in Orienteering in Stalowa Wola.
• 2nd place in the Polish Club Championships in Middle-Distance Orienteering in Ogrodzieniec.
• Polish Champion in Long-Distance Orienteering in Tenczynek.
• A member of the Polish Senior National Team in Orienteering.
• Master class achieved in the year 2024.

Marcel Okonowski (Wydział Informatyki i Telekomunikacji) – WKF karate

• 2nd place in kumite +86 during the Polish Academic Championships.
• Winner of the technical university classification in kumite +86 during the Polish Academic Championships.
• 3rd place in the team kumite at the Polish Academic Championships.
• 1st place in the team kata at the Polish Academic Championships.
• 8th place in the overall classification of the Polish Academic Championships.
• 5th place in the ranking of technical universities in the Academic Championships of Poland.

Zbigniew Stasieńko (Wydział Informatyki i Telekomunikacji) – basketball, 3x3 basketball

• 

  Winner of the Lower Silesian Inter-University League.
• Winner of the Lower Silesian Inter-University League in 3x3 basketball.
• 2nd place in the ranking of technical universities in the Academic Polish Championships in basketball.
• 9th place in the overall classification of the Polish Academic Basketball Championships.
• 4th place in the Open Wrocław Championships in 3x3 basketball.
• 4th place in the AuRoom 3x3 basketball tournament.

All students, doctoral students, and university staff can vote in the "WUST Best Athlete 2024" plebiscite using their university email address. You can vote for up to three candidates, by assigning them tokens worth three, two, or one point. The person with the highest number of points will win. Voting is anonymous and continues until 26 January.

Vote for the Athlete of the Year 2024 

The winner will be announced during the ceremonial Gala of the Academic Sports Club which will review the 2024 sports year and which will take place on 31 January.
