bgr27468.jpg Prof. Tadeusz Więckowski, DSc, Eng., Head of the Department of Telecommunications and ICT and former Rector of Wrocław University of Science and Technology, was honoured for his outstanding service to our University with the „Golden Lion of Wrocław University of Science and Technology”. The award was also presented to other former Rectors – Prof. Tadeusz Zipser, Prof. Wacław Kasprzak, Prof. Andrzej Wiszniewski, Prof. Andrzej Mulak, Prof. Tadeusz Luty and Prof. Cezary Madryas. Congratulations!

Since 2011, the “Lion of Wrocław University of Science and Technology” awards have been presented during the University’s anniversary celebrations. They constitute a special distinction for WUST employees – regardless of their position – who, through their work, commitment and ideas, promote the University and enhance its prestige within the academic community.

In the jubilee year marking the 80th anniversary of Wrocław University of Science and Technology, Rector Prof. Arkadiusz Wójs decided to award special, extraordinary “Golden Lions of Wrocław University of Science and Technology”.

During the ceremony held in the main auditorium, statuettes were presented to seven Rectors of WUST from previous terms, in recognition of their contribution to the establishment and development of our Alma Mater:

  • Prof. Tadeusz Zipser, Rector in 1981,
  • Prof. Wacław Kasprzak, Rector in 1982–1984,
  • Prof. Andrzej Wiszniewski, Rector in 1990–1996,
  • Prof. Andrzej Mulak, Rector in 1996–2002,
  • Prof. Tadeusz Luty, Rector in 2002–2008,
  • Prof. Tadeusz Więckowski, Rector in 2008–2016,
  • Prof. Cezary Madryas, Rector in 2016–2020.
– On behalf of the senior Rectors and myself, I would like to sincerely thank Prof. Arkadiusz Wójs for honouring us with the Lion of Wrocław University of Science and Technology statuette, especially as we are receiving it on the occasion of the University’s 80th anniversary. The Lion has special symbolism for us, as it refers to the city from which a significant part of the post-war academic staff of our University originated. Lions welcome guests entering the premises of Lviv Polytechnic, and we also have a lion on our building, which is a very fortunate coincidence – said Prof. Tadeusz Więckowski from the Faculty of Computer Science and Telecommunications.

bgr27525.jpg – A university of technology is not only infrastructure. A university is about people and their activities related to education, scientific research and development work for the economy. All of this determines the position of a technical university. In their activities, our staff and students demonstrate courage, creativity, but are also aware of the University’s strength. These are the qualities of a lion – added the former Rector.
