The Solvro Research Club and the Neuroinformatics Neuron Research Club are two student research clubs from our Faculty which were nominated "Strategic Research Clubs at WUST" in 2025. Congratulations! The nomination went in total to seven clubs from our University. Their activities cover key areas of research performed at Wrocław University of Science and Technology.

Solvro

Students from the Solvro club developed the ToPWR application. It is an information system supporting daily student life at our University.

The application already integrates many functions, such as a day countdown to the exam session, an interactive campus map, the number of available parking spaces, as well as information about dean's offices, student clubs, and organisations.

According to the members of this Research Club, becoming a „Strategic Research Club at WUST" is primarily an opportunity to demonstrate the application to a wider audience.

– The position as a strategic club enhances our credibility as a brand and gives us broader opportunities for collaboration with other organisations and companies. Being a strategic research club is not only a matter of prestige, but also a responsibility for offering initiatives that build the future of the club and the University – says Jakub Morawiec, head of the promotion department at the Solvro Research Club.

– We have prepared a 50-page application, the content of which is the result of our team's year-long hard work. Then it was time to refine the presentation and deliver it to the committee, which was preceded by numerous rehearsals to come across as professionally as possible. This is our shared success – adds the club president, Dawid Linek.

Members of the Solvro club aim to expand their application in 2025 to become a comprehensive knowledge database. Therefore, they plan to add another tool. The ToPWR Knowledge Graph will be based on the use of artificial intelligence and advanced data processing techniques to generate responses. The plans also include creating a chatbot feature, which will also be available in the Solvro app.

Neuron

The winners of the „Strategic Club at WUST" competition for the first time also include the Neuroinformatics ‘Neuron’ Research Club. Its members organise, among others, various hackathons, lectures popularising neuroscience, and they also work on projects based on the use of brain-computer interfaces.

– Achieving the title of a strategic Research Club at WUST is a great honour for us and a testament to our achievements so far as well as to our development potential. This prestigious status enables us to obtain additional funding from the University. As a result, we are able to take on more ambitious initiatives – comments Dominika Serafin, Vice President for Projects at the Neuroinformatics ‘Neuron’ Student Research Club.

So far, the club members have developed, among other things, the "Neurofiszka" application to support foreign language learning and have completed the scientific project "Neurocall", in which they investigated the possibility of controlling a mobile application using a BCI (Brain-Computer Interface).

Upon receiving the status of a strategic club, its members are planning to undertake ambitious projects.

– We are starting work on a new flagship project, NeuroGUARD, which aims to develop advanced cybersecurity solutions using neuroinformatics technology – explains Izabela Paniczek, Vice President for Administration at the Neuroinformatics ‘Neuron’ Student Research Club.

– We also have plans to develop the international Neurohackathon – Heroes of the Brain, which has become the largest event of its kind in Poland. We aim to enhance cooperation with the industry and other research institutions so that our efforts have the maximum impact on technological advances – adds Paniczek.

What is a strategic club?

Strategic Research Clubs have been nominated at WUST since 2017. The competition is intended to recognise organisations with particular achievements and significant development potential. Such student clubs which implement key, innovative projects.

The "strategic" title allows them to finance their activities with additional University's funding which is much greater than the society would be able to secure from their department.

Each club entering the competition had had to complete a detailed application form describing, among other things, their past achievements and plans for the coming year, and then successfully pass an evaluation of both formal and content-related criteria. In the end, they had to give a presentation to the members of the contest committee.

In evaluating the clubs, the committee took into account many factors: publications, research, and innovations that the clubs are working on, efficiency in obtaining external funding, social activities and work for students, organisation of and participation in various events, awards and promotion of the University, as well as the diligence in preparing the application.
