kr_raf-4.jpgDr. Rafał Królikowski from the Department of ICT and Telecommunications at our Faculty has been nominated in the Engineer of the Year competition by the Lower Silesian Regional Chamber of Civil Engineers. His professional achievements have been recognised, particularly in the field of technical expertise involving large telecommunications investments. Congratulations!

The Engineer of the Year competition has been organised by the Chamber of Civil Engineers for many years. Its purpose is to honour an engineer who has demonstrated professional achievements, commitment to the works of the civil engineers' self-government, or other activities, including social or scientific ones. This year, nominations went to 9 people including our scientist.

– Being nominated and reaching the second stage of the competition is an honour for me. Besides my educational activities at the university, which are my main focus, I also have some achievements in engineering. I prepare technical expertise documents, standards for operators, and standardisation documents. This was appreciated by the competition committee, and as a result, I was nominated – explains Dr. Rafał Królikowski from our Faculty.

Our scientist is an expert in the field of ICT network design. In 2024, he became an official engineering expert. Over the past two years, among other things he collaborated with the Warsaw University of Technology, in the development of a technical expertise on the expansion of the Lower Silesian Broadband Network. In collaboration with the LKE Laboratory, he also prepared an expert analysis of the Dynamic Passenger Information and Visual Monitoring System for PKP PLK S.A.

– Just as we have passenger information in cities for trams and buses, in Poland the railway also wants to introduce such systems. They conducted a pilot study for more than 120 stations. Some technical problems occurred resulting from the damage to the equipment caused by the environment in which they operate. Our task was to evaluate the project documentation. We were looking for ways and technical solutions to improve this situation so that future projects would be free of defects – explains Dr. Królikowski.

The competition committee also appreciated his other achievements. In the years 2021-2024, he promoted 55 engineers and 2 masters of science at WUST. The vast majority of the dissertations involved projects for telecommunications, teleinformatics, and teletechnical installations or networks.

He co-organised two editions of the summer school as part of the project named Academy of Innovative Applications of Digital Technologies (AI Tech) He also participated in a research project commissioned by the Ministry of National Defence titled "Research and simulations of the effects of HPM (High Power Microwave) pulses."

Our scientist has completed the stage of hearings before the committee, during which he presented his achievements and answered questions. The results of the Engineer of the Year competition are to be announced in September. The awards ceremony will take place at the October gala.
