Rector's Gambit for the Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity?

Date: 18.03.2025 Category: General

szachy1_2025.jpgOur last year's graduate Damian Raczkowski played chess with the rector, Prof. Arkadiusz Wójs. The graduate successfully bid for a chess game as part of the 33rd Finale of the Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity.

Damian graduated from Technical Computer Science at our Faculty. He was also active in one of the committees of the Student Government at WUST. Currently, he works at Intel. Has been playing chess for 13 years.

– It was my older brother who taught me the rules, probably thinking he’d have an easy opponent to defeat, but I quickly became better – Damian laughs.

Today, chess still remains a hobby for Damian Raczkowski. Prof. Arkadiusz Wójs is a great fan of this royal game. There was even an occasion when both gentlemen participated in the same tournament. However, they had never met over a chessboard until now, on 5 March 2025.

Our graduate won a chess game with the rector at one of the our university's auctions for this year's Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity. He donated 719 PLN to the Foundation's account.

At the WUST auctions for the Orchestra, one could also bid for, among other things, the world's smallest first aid training, a unique t-shirt for motorsport fans signed by stars, or the chance to become a Mars rover operator. Students from the Solvro Research Club operating at our Faculty offered bidders the opportunity to advertise in their app PromoCHATor and a hoodie with the club's logo.
