Students from our Strategic Student Research Club “Solvro” won the HackYeah hackathon in the Journey Radar category. Within 24 hours, they prepared the "Jak Doczłapię" tool, designed for delivering public transport delay notifications to passengers. Congratulations!
HackYeah is the largest stationary competition of its kind in Europe. This time, eleven challenges related to areas such as defence and security, travel, and game development were prepared for the event participants in Krakow. Teams could consist of up to six people, supported by experienced mentors.
The Solvro club entered the competition with as many as three teams, and the "Solvrownicy w Piaskownicy" (“Solvroxes in SandBoxes”) team won the main prize of 15,000 PLN in the Journey Radar category, where the key task was to develop a system for reporting delays and disruptions in public transport.

– It's a really cool experience. From Saturday morning until our return on Sunday evening, we didn't sleep for 40 hours. We were a team, we worked very well together. And the results of our work were visible when, after many hours, we stood on the stage with a big voucher. It was very satisfying – admits Dawid Linek, from the winning team.
The application had to, among other things, enable users to report disruptions so that passengers could be informed about any issues in real-time and check current delays, with account for the schedule and the user's location. It was also important that the app’s interface allowed easy communication (API) with the dispatch centres of railway and bus carriers.
The jury evaluated, among other things, the idea and innovativeness of the proposed solution, its practical applicability, and its completeness and implementation value.

The winning application named "Jak Doczłapię" was developed by: Dawid Linek (Backend Developer and Product Owner), Szymon Kowaliński (Mobile Developer), Tomasz Trela (Mobile Developer), Maciej Talarczyk (UI/UX Designer), Jakub Czajkowski (Backend Developer), and Bartosz Gotowski (Frontend Developer).
– We addressed the problem of transport exclusion. While in Wrocław and other large cities there are applications that allow you to search for routes, schedules, and track delays in real-time, no solutions have been offered for smaller towns. It's just a schedule stuck on the bus stop. So we decided to create an app that would first read and obtain this data from local carriers, so that one could search for a route – he adds.
In addition to reporting delays, failures, and crowded vehicles, the solution prepared by our students allows its users to, among other things, see nearby stops, search for carrier routes and modes of transport, and transmit their location in real-time.
This is the second victory of WUST students in the HackYeah hackathon. A year ago, a team from Solvro proved best in the Artificial Intelligence category, where the task was to create a tool that facilitates information search on websites.
