Our scientists participated in the Symposium of the Polish Artificial Intelligence Society. The two-day event began on 11 September at the University of Economics in Wrocław and concluded the following day at the Wrocław University of Science and Technology.
The Polish Artificial Intelligence Society was established in 2009 to promote and support activities related to the popularisation, development, methods, and tools of artificial intelligence. Its activities include, among others, organising conferences, scientific congresses, training sessions, or seminars.
– The association has nearly 300 members. They are the greatest authorities in the field of artificial intelligence in Poland – emphasises Prof. Ngoc Thanh Nguyen, head of the Department of Applied Computer Science at our Faculty.
The September Symposium of the Polish Artificial Intelligence Society was an opportunity to exchange experiences in the development of AI and to integrate the Polish community engaged in this field of science.
– The symposium is an annual meeting. We talk about such topics as the doctoral thesis competition, or we present the latest research results – he adds.
Does AI analyse voice?
On the second day of the Symposium, Prof. Katarzyna Kaczmarek-Majer from the Institute of Systems Research of the Polish Academy of Sciences delivered a lecture on the AI-based co-design of a mental health monitoring system using voice analysis.
– Its aim is to generate explanations about how a person's way of speaking changes in different affective states,” explains the professor.
Recent studies confirm that acoustic features extracted from speech are reliable markers for assessing the severity of manic and depressive symptoms.
The Symposium also included workshops for PhD students and young researchers. The first part focused on issues of controlling independent agents in simulation environments and games. During the second part, young scientists talked with experienced mentors. The main theme was: Ups and Downs of Scientific Research.
