The 21st edition of the DepCoS–RELCOMEX Conference, organised by WIT staff from the Department of Computer Engineering and DSW University, took place at Brunów Palace in Lower Silesia from 29 June to 2 July. This year, quantum technologies occupied a special place in the programme, and their work was presented by, among others, students from the Qubit Student Research Club.

DepCoS–RELCOMEX initially focused on issues related to the reliability of computer systems. Over time, its subject matter was expanded to include, among other things, models and applications of artificial intelligence, the use of computer science in medicine, and current trends in computer science and telecommunications. Quantum computing also became an important part of this year's edition, reports Dr. Radosław Idzikowski from the Department of Automation and Quantum Computing. 

The researcher added that two sessions devoted to quantum technologies, which took place on the third day of the conference, were of particular importance. The first was chaired by Prof. Andrzej Kucharski, Dean of WIT, thus opening the thematic block devoted to quantum computing, machine learning and optimisation.

Students from the Qubit Student Research Club were among those who presented their papers during the sessions. As reported by the organisers, the papers had been prepared since the beginning of the academic year and were completed during the winter semester. Presenting before a wider group of scientists was an opportunity for the students to summarise several months of work, compare their research results with the opinions of conference participants and gain scientific experience.

The day before the quantum sessions, a plenary lecture entitled “Practical classical quantum aspects in the use of Gaussian kernels for quantum unidimensional binary clustering, based on the method proposed by Horn and Gottlieb” was also held, prepared by Sergiej Trotsky, MSc, a PhD student at the Department of Automation and Quantum Computing. The presentation introduced the participants to the subject of quantum computing and presented the current state of research conducted at the department.

The conference was organised by Prof. Wojciech Zamojski. The organising committee consisted mainly of staff from the Department of Computer Engineering, as well as, from this year, staff from DSW University:
