Students from our Strategic Student Research Club „Solvro” developed a free mobile app called “First Fiddle”. It includes eleven picturesque walking routes in Wrocław. You can explore them while listening to music, and the app will indicate the approximate number of calories burned or the recommended amount of water to drink.
The application, along with a special website, was developed as part of the „Health Plays the First Fiddle" program, initiated by students from our Faculty's “Solvro” Strategic Student Research Club in cooperation with the Student Heart Diseases Research Club at the Medical University of Wrocław. Their main goal was to investigate the impact of music therapy on the cardiovascular system. It was also about promoting a healthy lifestyle by combining physical activity, music, and health education.

– Our app offers walking routes in Wrocław along with information on their length, estimated calories burned, and recommended water intake – says Dawid Linek, project supervisor from Solvro. – Each of the route proposals is also provided with a music playlist. The pieces are adapted to the walking pace, allowing users to synchronize their step rhythm with the music – he adds.
The longest prepared route is almost 6 km long and runs through Piasek Island, Słodowa Island, Stanisława Dubois Street, Księcia Witolda Street, Podwale Street, Partyzantów Hill, and Juliusz Słowacki Park. The attached playlist includes works by Giuseppe Verdi, Franz Liszt, Franz Schubert, and Johann Sebastian Bach.
The shortest route is a loop around East Park. It measures just under 3 km, and according to the data in the app, completing it allows you to burn almost 190 calories. During the walk, the user listens to Fryderyk Chopin, Ludwig van Beethoven, Robert Schumann and others.

The application was launched at the end of September, when students organized a series of events encouraging Wrocław residents to use it for walks. On the walkways, measurement points were set up where members of the Heart Diseases research club measured the participants' pulse and blood pressure to study how different musical styles affect heart function. The results may contribute to a better understanding of the role of music therapy in the prevention and treatment of cardiovascular diseases.
The students summarized their initiative during the „Heart Day" organized at the Medical University, during which they promoted cardiovascular disease prevention among the academic community.
– Although we have concluded the events related to the project, the application is still available for Wrocław's walkers interested in city hikes. You can find it both in the Google Play store and App Store, and the program is available for free – emphasizes Tomasz Trela, leader of the mobile team at Solvro.
