Our Heroes of the Brain Are Back!
At the end of November, the second edition of the flagship Neurohackathon “Heroes of the Brain” took place. The 24-hour event, organised by the Neuron Student Research Club and the Faculty’s Student Government, once again brought together students and technology enthusiasts to develop innovative solutions based on brain signal analysis (EEG), artificial intelligence, and brain–computer interfaces.
A neurohackathon is a form of hackathon in which participants develop innovative software solutions within a short period of time. In the case of “Heroes of the Brain,” a key role was played by EEG signals recorded using caps and headbands provided by the strategic sponsor – BrainAccess.
The participants had exactly 24 hours to design and implement prototypes combining brain activity analysis with artificial intelligence algorithms and real-world user applications.
The event was organised by the Neuron Student Research Club and the Faculty’s Student Government. The entire event, held in building D-21, was coordinated by a 35-member organising team supported by mentors, volunteers, and external partners.
The participants competed in two categories:
- Wellness – focused on health, well-being, and rehabilitation using AI and BCI technologies,
- Commerce – dedicated to business, product, and entertainment solutions with potential for further commercialization.
A total of 22 teams registered for the event (9 in the Wellness category and 11 in the Commerce category), each consisting of 3 to 5 members. The participants came to Wrocław from, among others, Warsaw, Gdańsk, Gliwice, and Katowice, as well as from outside Poland.
After the final presentations and jury deliberations, the winners were announced:
Wellness category
- BrainStorm – PLN 5,000

Commerce category
- 4Sigma – PLN 5,000
- neuronauts – BrainAccess Standard Kit
- Vibe Coders – BrainAccess HALO smartband
The BrainStorm project proposed a portable EEG system for real-time epilepsy seizure detection, designed especially for children, enabling home-based patient monitoring and remote access to data by physicians.
The winning project in the Commerce category – 4Sigma (Present.IT) – allows users to control presentations using EEG signals, eye blinks, and head movements, offering a modular and configurable solution with broad application potential.
The projects were evaluated by a jury composed of representatives of the academic community and event sponsors, including Prof. Aleksandra Kawala-Sterniuk, Prof. Adrianna Kozierkiewicz, Dr. Aleksandras Voicikas, and Dr. Arkadiusz Ziółkowski. The evaluation criteria included innovation, usability, quality of implementation, and the final presentation.
The Neurohackathon was held under the honorary patronage of the Rector of Wrocław University of Science and Technology. Its sponsors included autoMEE, Cortivision, and AXA. The media partners of the event were Radio LUZ, CODE::ME, and Chatbots.
