Prof. Tomasz Kajdanowicz, Head of the Department of Artificial Intelligence, received the Lower Silesian Key to Success 2025 in recognition of his outstanding scientific and didactic achievements. Congratulations!

The Lower Silesian Key to Success is one of the most prestigious distinctions in this region of Poland. It is awarded to individuals and institutions whose work, passion, and commitment help build the brand of Lower Silesia in the country and around the world.

This year’s winners in eight categories were announced during a special gala held in the Column Hall of Topacz Castle. Among the awardees was Prof. Tomasz Kajdanowicz from our Faculty, who received the prize in the “Science and Education” category.

– Although the distinction is individual, I interpret it as recognition awarded to the AI community in Wrocław and Lower Silesia, and in particular to the teams working at the Department of Artificial Intelligence. I see it as a recognition of the quality, scale, and maturity of the AI research carried out here – said Prof. Tomasz Kajdanowicz after receiving the award.

Prof. Tomasz Kajdanowicz is a specialist in the field of artificial intelligence. He is also head of the Department of Artificial Intelligence at the Faculty of Information and Communication Technology.

He earned his Ph.D. (with distinction) at Wrocław University of Science and Technology in 2012, and his habilitation degree in 2020 at the Institute of Computer Science of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Warsaw.

His research interests include machine learning and deep learning, social network and social media analysis, and recommender systems.

Prof. Tomasz Kajdanowicz is an expert in artificial intelligence and an advocate of its responsible use in relations between citizens, local government, industry, and academia. He is also an innovator and entrepreneur, and a graduate of the TOP 500 Innovators program at Stanford University.

The Lower Silesian Key to Success was established in 1996 by the Association for the Promotion of Lower Silesia.

In 2012, Wrocław University of Science and Technology was honoured in the category “Best Educational Initiative.” In 2018, the distinction “for outstanding achievements in science and education” was awarded to Prof. Andrzej Wiszniewski, former rector of Wrocław University of Science and Technology and former minister of science (1990–1996). In 2019 the award went to Prof. Aleksander Weron from the Faculty of Mathematics, in 2021 – to Prof. Tadeusz Więckowski from the Faculty of Computer Science and Telecommunications, and in 2022 – to Prof. Marcin Drąg from the Faculty of Chemistry.

In 2023, a special distinction went to the Off-Road Student Research Club, recognized for its international achievements and its activities aimed at promoting science.
