Student Projects Support Industry

Students of our Faculty and the Faculty of Electronics, Photonics, and Microsystems presented twenty projects during the final of the 13th edition of the Team Projects Conference. Among them are a climbing inspection robot with a magnetic drive and a tensometric glove for load analysis.

Cooperation of science and business in practice

The Team Projects Conference is an initiative in which representatives of companies from various fields and branches of economy propose topics and then implement them in close collaboration with students from two faculties: Faculty of Information and Communication Technology and from the Faculty of Electronics, Photonics, and Microsystems. As a result, they can see what it's like to work in such enterprises.

This year, 76 projects were submitted by 28 companies. The 20 most advanced solutions were displayed during the final gala in the A-1 building. The students had to, inter alia, present their idea and demonstrate how it works.

– For students, it is not only an opportunity to gain valuable experience, but also a mandatory element of the study program. Work on projects lasts 15 weeks of the summer semester, preceded by intensive topic gathering in the winter semester. That is when ideas crystallize, which have the potential to change our everyday lives – says Dr. Maciej Nikodem, the organizer of the Team Projects Conference.

Particular emphasis is placed on teamwork. Therefore one topic typically involves a group of 4-5 students. For companies, the conference is often a form of recruitment – they can observe future employees in action and assess their technical skills and problem-solving abilities. This year, students have tackled topics covering both advanced software and complex hardware solutions.

Awards for the best

All the presented ideas were evaluated by a jury consisting of scientists and company representatives. The first prize, along with the audience award, was awarded to the project “RYTHMIO - Low-cost ECG holter with a mobile application.” The second place was awarded to the robot “Magłowicz.”

The main sponsors of the event were Capgemini and Nokia, and it was held under the patronage of the Academic Radio LUZ, the Mayor of Wrocław, and TVP3 Wrocław.
